How Healthy Is Your Commercial Building?

The only way to know if your commercial building has radon is to test for it. Testing is simple and inexpensive. The EPA recommends that all commercial buildings with levels over 4.0 picoCuries per liter (pCi/L) be mitigated

What Is Radon?

Radon is a clear, odorless, radioactive gas that comes from the natural decay of uranium. Radon exists in soil, rock, and water and enters a building through dirt floors, hollow-block walls, cracks in the foundation floor and walls, openings around floor drains, pipes, and sump holes. Radon has been identified as the second leading cause of lung cancer, second only to cigarette smoking. The longer you are exposed to radon, the higher the likelihood of developing lung cancer.

How Does Radon Mitigation Work?

Simply put, a radon mitigation system pulls radon from beneath the building and vents it to the outside. The right system depends on the design of your building and other factors. Lowering high radon levels requires technical knowledge and special skills. Our radon mitigation specialists can assess the radon problem in your commercial building and recommend the best solution.

Why Choose The Virtus Group for Radon Testing?

Choosing a professional that is experienced and qualified for radon testing and mitigation is extremely important when addressing radon concerns. Too often, inexperienced and nonqualified individuals are hired to test commericial buildings for radon or install commercial radon mitigation systems. It is also important to avoid any potential conflicts of interest by having the radon testing (initial and post-mitigation testing) performed independently from the radon mitigation installation.  It is crucial that the testing performed accurately identifies the radon levels and takes into account the configuration of the building and all other factors that can affect the radon levels. Otherwise, the customer may end up spending too much money for a system that is inadequate and does not reduce the radon levels as expected. The customer is then forced to expend more time and money retrofitting the system to maintain safe radon levels within their building.
